Burchills Turns 50!

Burchills Engineering Solutions marks its golden jubilee this year, commemorating five decades since Geoff Burchill founded the company on the Gold Coast in 1974. The company has significantly contributed to local development, with landmark projects such as Robina, Helensvale, Sanctuary Cove, Hope Island, and many iconic high-rise buildings helping to shape the region.

The business has been a foundation for engineering talent across generations. Even with changes in ownership, Burchills has preserved the invaluable expertise of some original founding members.

Graeme Buntine, a founding member of Burchills, captures this legacy, noting, “Burchills Engineering Solutions prides itself on a legacy of enduring standards and relationships. Our commitment to quality work, from design through supervision, underpins our ability to stand the test of time and leave a lasting impact on both the community and our industry.”

Echoing this sentiment of continuity and commitment, Philip Bell, Principal Engineer for 30 years, adds, “Drawing on the seasoned insights of our long-standing engineers ensures that our projects are enriched by decades of expertise.”

The celebration of the company’s 50-year milestone was recently marked by a lunch event, where long-serving team members were honoured as Burchills “Legends.” This special occasion, hosted by Managing Director Steve Coote, became a platform for these stalwarts to share their stories and history with the new generation, bridging the past with the future and encapsulating the company’s rich heritage.

Under Steve Coote’s leadership since 2013, Burchills has nurtured a culture that champions teamwork and combines experience with the vigour of youth. “Our structure as an employee-owned company ensures our team is deeply invested in the business’s success, aligning closely with our clients’ objectives.”

Burchills has earned acclaim for urban development expertise and has successfully diversified into a wide range of infrastructure projects. These include planning and designing community-enhancing facilities such as roads, drainage systems, recreational and sporting facilities. The company’s expansion across Southeast Queensland and Northern NSW, signified by its growing Brisbane and Toowoomba teams, demonstrates its adaptable and client-centred approach.

Looking to the future, Burchills intends to broaden its reach, with a team ready to deliver valuable outcomes that meet evolving client and community needs. Coote emphasizes, “It’s about more than just completing projects; it’s about the communities we affect and the enduring legacy we contribute to.”

As Burchills Engineering Solutions celebrates this significant 50-year landmark, it remains dedicated to fostering a supportive team environment and delivering engineering solutions that are both dependable and results-oriented. The 50th-anniversary celebrations have not only been an opportunity to reflect on past accomplishments but also a chance to strengthen the company’s ongoing commitment to client service and community involvement for the future.
