Burchills were engaged by Yass Valley Council to complete a Feasability Assessment for the The Yass Valley Rail Trail. The proposed shared pedestrian and bicycle path is planned to be constructed along the disused Yass Tramway corridor between the Great Southern Railway (Yass Junction Railway Station) and Yass Township and will run for approximately 4.5 km.

The Rail Trail route includes a heritage listed steel bridge built in 1892 across the Yass River, and the route ends at the Yass Railway Museum (also heritage listed) near the centre of Yass.

Yass Valley Council required the assessment to be completed for the rail trail to confirm the feasibility of the project based on a range of social, economic, and environmental factors.

Burchills were engaged to provide a review of the problem identification, options generation and assessment documentation and prepare a business case for the Yawalpah Road Project.

Council sought to confirm the upgrade requirements to Yawalpah Road, Pimpama, including but not limited to the following:

• Requirements (four lanes, six lanes, or combination) for approximately 5kms of road duplication (sub-arterial road) on Yawalpah Road between the M1 Pacific Highway Exit 49 and future Coomera Connector, including integration to existing and proposed interchange works.
• Signalised intersection arrangements along the length of Yawalpah Road including Gawthern Drive, Dixon Drives, Cunningham Drive and Kerkin Road on all four legs.
• General intersection arrangements at Salzberg Road, Cox Road and Swan Road.
• Bridge over rail duplication requirements.

The above has previously been assessed on strategic traffic demand modelling, however analysis has not considered the impact of key adjacent Transport and Main Roads (TMR) projects such as upgrades to Exit 49 and the Coomera Connector. Burchills are providing an updated business case based on forensic traffic demand modelling, including all known impacts.

Stage One of the Project comprises a 13km light rail system between the new Gold Coast University Hospital and Broadbeach, the construction value was $700m+. Stage Two included another 6km through to Helensvale.

Burchills Engineering Solutions undertook the condition surveys on properties and general infrastructure within the vicinity of construction works for the Gold Coast Light Rail Stage 1 & 2. The condition assessments and reports involved data collection of asset information for more than 1000 sites including properties and general infrastructure assets including roads and civil infrastructure. Burchills Engineering Solutions provided the D&C contractors a benchmark for further assessment, should a claim be made against the Contractors due to damaged or defective property.

Burchills Engineering Solutions were engaged by City of Gold Coast to undertake a regional hydraulic impact assessment and inform the masterplan for a major park development in the heart of the Merrimac floodplain.

The project required assessment of the existing hydrological (URBS) and hydraulic (TUFLOW) models to ensure they were suitable for use, as well as design iteration of the masterplan to ensure the hydraulic function of the floodplain was maintained through the design process.

Burchills have been engaged to complete the detailed design fit for construction for a signalised intersection at Intersection of Robina Town Centre Drive and Laver Drive, Robina.

Burchills have reviewed the completed intersection concept design and associated documentation and produce a, cost effective detailed design for a signalised intersection at Intersection of Robina Town Centre Drive and Laver Drive, Robina, including the associated links from Robina Town Centre Drive and Laver Drive, Robina.

Burchills were engaged by Lendlease Engineering to undertake pre and post construction surveys for M1M3 upgrade project. 

The Pacific Motorway Upgrade – M1/M3/Gateway Merge Project scope includes:

• Utilising the existing pavement to provide four lanes on the Pacific Motorway under the Gateway Motorway (M2) Overpass, merging back to three lanes prior to the Gateway Motorway and Pacific Motorway merge.
• A concrete barrier between the north and south bound carriageways with pavement widening on southbound carriageway to provide for the five lane cross section from the Gateway Motorway merge to Rochedale Road – approximately 2.5 kilometres.

Replacing the Underwood Road overpass with a new bridge to accommodate five general traffic lanes in both directions (southbound and northbound carriageways) and a new bus on ramp and an access road from School Road under the bridge.
