Burchills have been engaged by the City of Gold Coast (CoGC) to undertake a design update for a road and bridge duplication at Yawalpah Road, Pimpama including the design of a signalisation of the Gawthern Drive intersection and at Cunningham Drive North intersection.
Yawalpah Road in Pimpama has been identified by CoGC as a major traffic route to cater for ongoing re-development within the local area. This $60m upgrade project is primarily required to assist vehicle flow due to congestion during peak hours. The project has the following key elements:
- Upgrade the existing Yawalpah Road carriageways to the ultimate 4-lane configuration from Old Railway to Cunningham Drive North round-a-bout;
- Upgrade the existing Yawalpah Road carriageways to the ultimate 4-lane configuration from Cunningham Drive North round-a-bout to Kerkin Drive;
- Upgrade / re-configuration of the existing Cunningham Drive / Yawalpah Road roundabout to a new signalised intersection;
- Signalisation of the Gawthern Drive / Yawalpah Road intersection
- Duplication of a two-lane bridge over rail line.
Additional scope was added to include a Business Case study of the road duplication confirming the proposed duplication arrangement and intersection upgrades, particularly, given the recent announcement by the State Government to construct the Coomera Connector to the east of the Yawalpah Road. This scope included problem identification, options generation and assessment including a structured Cost Benefit Assessment leading to a preferred upgrade solution. Burchills provided a business case based on forensic traffic demand modelling, including all known impacts.
