Burchills was engaged by Logan City Council to design a 3.4 km shared active transport connection between Logan Village and Yarrabilba in Logan. The trail links both centres for enhanced connectivity and activation, increased active transport and economic benefit to Council and local businesses within the region. The project is being delivered under TMR’s Rail Trail Local Government Grants Program supporting sustainable active transport amenities and encourage physical activities through walking, jogging and cycling.
Burchills has been involved in all stages of the project from the initial feasibility study, concept design, and then the subsequent detailed design with Burchills to remain involved throughout construction due to be completed by mid-2021. The scope has covered a variety of engineering, design and environmental disciplines including civil, structural, flooding, geotechnical, survey, environmental, active transport, landscape and urban design, wayfinding and signage.
The Logan Village to Yarrabilba Rail Trail rail trail follows a disused spur line connecting the centres of Logan Village to the emerging centre of Yarrabilba. The trail utilises parts of the original railway formation (embankments and cuttings) preserving some cultural heritage values and integrates into existing path networks at both ends of the corridor. One of the key project objectives was to demonstrate Logan City Council’s commitment to developing sustainable active transport amenities and encourage physical activities through walking, jogging, and cycling.
